Hi everybody. My name is Ivan and I’m here to talk to you today about how to pronounce the letters ough. There are at least seven different pronunciations. The most common is an /ɔː/ sound, like in bought, thought, brought and fought. Another pronunciation is /ʌf/, as in rough, tough and enough. Another pronunciation is /əʊ/ in though, although and dough. A further pronunciation is /aʊ/, as in bough and plough. Another pronunciation is /ə/, as in thorough and borough. And the last two are /uː/, as in through and /ɒf/, as in cough. And that’s how we pronounce ough. Thank you.
