Hello welcome to TopUp Learning and welcome to your one minute lesson. Last week we looked at idioms to express happiness so this week we’re going to look at idioms to express sadness. To feel blue means to feel sad or depressed. “I can’t cheer up today, I’m feeling blue”. Down in the mouth means when someone is sad or unhappy and usually refers to other people. “She’s been a bit down in the mouth since she failed her exam”. Face like a wet weekend. This is British slang for when someone looks sad or unhappy. “He’s had a face like a wet weekend since his wife left him”. With a heavy heart.
