Hello. Welcome to TopUp Learning and welcome to your one minute lesson. Today we are looking at homonyms, homophones, and homographs. But what are they?
Homonyms are words that sound the same, look the same but have a different meaning. Bat, bat, trunk, trunk, trunk, trunks.
Homophones are words that are written differently, pronounced the same but have different meanings. “I said no you can’t go out and I know you heard me”. “I need to buy some meat and veg for dinner, do you want to meet up and go shopping?” “I won the tennis match and now I am the number one player at my tennis club”.
Homographs are words that look the same, sound different and have different meanings. “It’s a long and windy road.” “It’s a dark and windy night”. “That’s a pretty bow in your hair” “You have to bow before the queen”.
